Bluebird Grain Farms is a locally owned and operated farm, dedicated to cultivating and preserving heritage grains using healthy and sustainable practices. Sam and Brooke Lucy started Bluebird Grain Farms in 2005, just outside of Winthrop, Washington. Bluebird specializes in old world grains, including Emmer, Einkhorn, Rye and Wheat varieties, all grown organically. Above all, their grains are produced from their own carefully cultivated seed, sun cured, stored onsite, and milled to order. The flour is always fresh, consistent, and extremely versatile.
We began experimenting with Bluebird Grain Farms Emmer Flour early on, developing a deliciously wholesome loaf through time, energy and fermentation. Using whole grain flour is much more labor intensive, but the pay off is worth the extra effort. Polly Lucy, Sam's sister, is our head bread baker and was the motivation behind the creation of a 100% Bluebird Grain loaf. The Emmer loaf has become one of our most popular rustic loaves, it's heartiness and nutty flavor a perfect addition to any dinner party.
